THE BURLAND FAMILY

Our interest in the Burland family arises from the marriage at Campsall, West Yorkshire, 10.6.1731 between Jane Burland and Robert Hill (See Ref. Y22).  We think it was Robert’s second marriage.

Burland Cookson family

We believe that Jane Burland was baptised 28.8.1709 at Campsall, the daughter of Cuthbert Burland and Martha Cookson, who had married 26.10.1696 at Darrington, also in the West Riding, some six miles away. Details of their family are given in Appendix 1 hereto.  Martha was buried 31.10.1744 at Darrington, followed by Cuthbert 26.3.1749.

We think that Cuthbert could have been the child baptised at Castleford 29.9.1667 and named after his father, with a brother William baptised 29.11.1664. We know no more of Martha Cookson.
