Our interest in this Scottish family derives from Catherine Main marrying John Cairns (1799-1873) (See Ref. K5)
She was born in August 1799, at Carnwath, Lanarkshire, the daughter of James Main, a gardener and his wife Janet, nee Howison. We have found no other baptisms relating to this couple and it appears that marriage records for Carnwath 1736-1825 have not been archived.
