Our interest in this family arises from Margaret Walkinshaw marrying David Cairns (See Ref. K5) 10.6.1798 at Eddlestone, Peebleshire.
Walkinshaw Jackson family
In 1861 Margaret was reported as aged 60 born at Linton. We duly found a baptism at West Linton, Peebleshire, 3.5.1780 for Margaret the daughter of Robert Walkinshaw, a ploughman and his wife Margaret Jackson. Other researchers have a date of birth 24.4.1780. They married 26.6.1779 at West Linton. We could not find any other children recorded. We do not know Robert’s dates, although other researchers claim to have found them as 1747-1798. There were baptisms for Margaret Jackson at West Linton in 1753 and 1759. It does not seem possible to take the Jackson name any further.
